The computer science research section of Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US), located in Mountain View, California, has several openings for full-time positions.
1) Interaction Designer and User Experience Prototyper (Job Number: P11F01)
Applicants will have experience and skills for designing intelligent user interfaces for advanced, intuitive, multi-modal human-machine interfaces for automobiles of the future. This position requires experience working with one or more of the following technologies: augmented reality, computer vision, voice interfaces, tangible and natural user interfaces. Candidates are expected to have a portfolio of previous projects and be well-versed with a variety of design methodologies. Familiarity with prototyping languages like Processing, Arduino, OpenFrameworks, visual/motion graphic design, CAD tools, or C++ experience with OpenGL/OpenCV is a strong asset. Physical prototyping skills, such as working with foam, clay or plastics is also valuable. The ability to be comfortable with both hardware and software is important, as well as experience conducting user studies. Candidates should have a Masters degree or higher or demonstrate exemplary previous related work experience.
This is a 3-year position with a possibility of further extensions or transition to a permanent position at the company discretion.
2) Computer Vision/Computer Graphics/Intelligent User Interfaces (Job Number: P11F02)
Candidates will be responsible for research, design and implementation of novel human-machine interfaces (HMI) for the near to far future.
The applicant will have a cross-disciplinary background in two or more of the following areas: interactive computer vision, computer graphics, augmented reality, artificial intelligence and user interfaces. Successful candidates will have the ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and both conceive, design and implement ideas for next generation automotive interfaces. Past experience should demonstrate the ability to skillfully blend elements of hardware and software using computer vision, graphics and artificial intelligence in system requiring strong user interaction over different modalities. Knowledge of C++, OpenGL, OpenCV, ROS, machine learning, tangible user interfaces, natural user interfaces, Arduino, OpenFrameworks or other relevant languages/APIs is strongly desired. Applicants should have clear communication skills for representing their ideas. Previous experience with sensors and actuators, or physical computing is an asset. Knowledge of web programming or cloud-based service APIs will be important. Familiarity with user evaluation methodologies is desired. Candidates will be expected to design novel ideas, and implement and communicate their work for demonstration and research publication.
